We are excited to announce that enrollment for our summer academy is now open. Please note that due to events related to COVID-19 and to meet a greater demand to reach more students for our traditional summer academy, we made the difficult decision to not offer advanced academies. We understand this is frustrating for those students who are excited to expand on their STARBASE experience. We do, however, hope you understand our unique circumstances.

This year we are offering a week-long virtual academy and in-person, two-day, mini academies. Academy details and dates are below. The enrollment link is at the bottom of this page. If you have any issues enrolling, please contact us. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your children soon!

VIRTUAL SUMMER ACADEMY

Theme: Bring STARBASE into your own home, creating an exploration playground! Through exciting hands-on experiments and activities, participants will work in their home laboratory, applying concepts of force and motion, engineering, chemistry, fluid mechanics, and energy, and they will use chromatography to solve a whodunnit mystery!

Eligibility: Students entering 5th or 6th grades for the 2021/22 school year.

Dates & Times: June 21 - 25; 10am to 12pm

Cost: There is no cost.

Supplies: Except for a couple of common household items, such as water and dish soap, and a device to connect through Zoom, STARBASE provides the tools and supplies. In order to participate, the materials must be picked up in advance from Selfridge prior to the academy. STARBASE will provide several pick up dates and times to better accommodate schedules.

TWO-DAY, MINI SUMMER ACADEMY

Theme: Does technology, science, and engineering excite your child? If so, have them join us and like-minded peers at STARBASE. Through an immersive, hands-on setting, students will program a robot to navigate a Mars surface, design a life-saving contraption in an "egg-citing" engineering activity, blast off into space in a full-scale space shuttle nose simulator, apply the science of chromatography while working in a replica of the International Space Station's Destiny lab module, and much more!

Eligibility: Students entering 5th or 6th grades for the 2021/22 school year.

Dates & Times: All mini-academies run 9am to 2pm

  • Session 1: July 19 - 20 (FILLED)

  • Session 2: July 22 - 23

  • Session 3: July 26 - 27

  • Session 4: July 29 - 30

  • Session 5: August 2 - 3

  • Session 6: August 5 - 6

Location: Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan.

Transportation: Students will need transportation to and from the academy each day.

Cost: There is no cost. All materials are provided.

Lunch: Students need to bring a non-perishable lunch and beverage each day.

COVID Mitigation: STARBASE is a certified participant in the "COVID-19 Workplace Safety Ambassador Program." We practice and update safety measures to meet current guidelines, and we extend these important safety measure expectations and practices with all participants.
